Obituary

Connie Bragiel

Age 73 of Wilmington, formerly of Chicago, passed away Thursday, October 22, 2020 at her home.

Born June 1, 1947 in Winfield, Tennessee, Conda Sue was a daughter of Hurstle and Della (Burchfield) Stephens. She was raised and educated in Tennessee, and then moved to Kentucky and later to Chicago. On April 20, 1974, she married Philip Joseph Bragiel in Chicago, and together they raised their family in the Marquette Park neighborhood of Chicago.

Connie worked for many years as a dental assistant until she retired, and she and her husband relocated to Wilmington. She was an active member of Saint Rose Catholic Church in Wilmington where she was a member of the CCW, and also volunteered with Meals on Wheels. Connie was an avid gardener whose backyard was her paradise. She loved to tend to her flowers and watch hummingbirds visit the bird feeders she would put out for them. Connie had a keen interest in politics and enjoyed reading any book she could get her hands on. She always looked forward to family game night with her children or grandchildren, and took great pride in her family and raising them.

Survivors include her three children: Dwayne (Kathy) Bragiel and Glenn (Laura) Bragiel, both of Chicago, and Philip (Amy) Bragiel of Plainfield; eight grandchildren: Nicole Bragiel, June (Griffin) Augustyniak, Loren (Joseph) DeAngeles, Joseph Bragiel, Matt Bragiel, Sara Bragiel, Gianna Bragiel, and Madison Bragiel; five great grandchildren: Madelyn, Hayden, Malachi, Elena, and Joseph, Jr.; eight brothers and sisters: Hurshel (Debra) Stephens and Kathel Moore, both of Tennessee, Von (Linda) Burchfield and Carl (Mary) Burchfield, both of Indiana, Klethern (Charles) Carlisle, Corlan Ellis, and Bandal Ball, all of Kentucky, and Gigi (Gary) Ellis of Tennessee; one sister-in-law, Eileen (the late Rick) Johnson of Chicago, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Connie was preceded in death by her parents, husband, twelve brothers and sisters, and special aunt: Margaret Burchfield.
